I love Mini Maestros because... “I love the concert” Alanah, 4 |
The buzz...Was Your First Mini Maestros Class What You Expected?By now you will have realised, as all of our returning customers do, the great benefits that come from having your child participate in a structured music education program. Rather than merely providing musical entertainment for your child, Mini Maestros is committed to nurturing and educating your child in a supportive, fun environment. Why do we start the year with such 'old favourites' as 'Twinkle Twinkle' and 'Ring a Ring a Rosy'? Children need to be made to feel comfortable and confident in new surroundings. The best way for us to do this is to allow them to participate in their first few classes using songs and rhymes that are familiar to them. From a supportive beginning, we can encourage children's trust in their teacher and allow them to become part of the Mini Maestros learning process. Our classes provide a sequential pattern of learning, which is ever present but not always immediately obvious. Our important 'teaching songs' are carefully placed throughout the program, being introduced as simple beat activities for babies and returning as notation or vocal activities for our 4-5 year olds, for example. Children are led through a process to discover musical elements such as form, pitch and metre. This discovery process begins in our babies' classes, but may not become apparent until our 3-4 or 4-5 year old programs. Although the Mini Maestros program has been influenced by a variety of teaching methodologies over many years of music specialist teaching, we still rely on the sequential approach of Zoltan Kodaly as embraced by the the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia.
