Moving to a Steady Beat and the Young Brain

The Mini Maestros program is designed to help students develop a higher order of thinking and listening skills, sensitivity, gross and fine motor skills, and a willingness to work together.

Each individual class activity is designed to develop children’s musical, physical, social, creative and cognitive skills. Reinforcing a sense of steady beat is common element in many activities through all our age group programs. Mini Maestros believes a sense of steady beat is not only critical for good musicianship, but that it also assists with the development of the brain.

Our view is supported by scientific research. On the 18th of September 2013 the BBC reported that "Moving in time to a steady beat is closely linked to better language skills." View the BBC report here: The report is on a paper published in the Journal of Neurosciences dealing with neural response in the developing brain to exposure to a steady musical beat.
