Sharmila’s passion for music began as a young child. She was classically trained in piano and violin, and plays other instruments including recorder and ukulele. Growing up, Sharmila loved playing in string quartets and orchestras. She also studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. From there, Sharmila went on to pursue studies in primary education. Apart from teaching as a music specialist in primary schools, Sharmila has also worked in community development and used her music in aspects of this.
It was during her time in playgroups with her then, young daughters that Sharmila became keenly aware of how fundamental music was to the brain development of very young children. Upon discovering Mini Maestros, Sharmila realised that here was an avenue through which she could utilise her skills in both music teaching and building community amongst parents/carers – two of her most favourite things!
