Diving Deeper

Diving Deeper - "Dance"

By Cathy Edgar - Bundoora/South Morang Franchisee & Teacher

Most people I know like to dance. Dancing is rhythmic movement that is mostly generated by positive emotion or excitement. It’s a wonderful way to express joy and is immensely beneficial to our health, wellbeing and overall happiness.

In Mini Maestros classes children and their carers have the opportunity to be involved in many dances and explore different dance styles. Every day I see the children’s eyes light up with excitement when dancing is mentioned as the next activity.

Meet the Team

Meeting The Head Office Team

Bruce Fethers is Mini Maestros’ Managing Director and co-owner. Bruce had a career as a lawyer and then as a business executive before coming to Mini Maestros. An accomplished musician, Bruce spent many years as a church organist and conductor of choirs. He was organist for Trinity College and Ormond College choirs, conducted Schola Cantorum, and for 17 years was the organist, choir conductor and music director at St John’s Anglican Church, East Malvern.

The combination of his logical mind and his ability to empathise with others, makes Bruce a natural leader. His experience and expertise has seen Mini Maestros grow and flourish in his care.

This is a photo of Bruce playing the organ in St Stephan’s Church in Baden, Austria. Mozart wrote his famous “Ave Verum” for the music director of this church in 1791.

We interviewed Bruce about super powers, life advice and deserted islands.

Children of Tomorrow

Children of Tomorrow

By Maddy Kelly - Training and Development Officer

This article explores the integration of dance and movement into children’s early education, and the philosophy that supports it. Children have a natural desire to move and express themselves through their bodies. It is important that this need is met and implicated into early childhood settings. While the physical benefits of dance and movement are widely recognised, there are many emotional and social benefits that are strongly supported by educational and cognitive theorists. Consequently, it is important that schools and centres adhere to the standards of dance in early childhood, as a means to meet the physical and cognitive needs of all children and provide them with creative and cultural opportunities to connect with others and develop their own wellbeing.

Joseph attends Elwood 1-2 year old classes with Janet Collins and is an absolute jam-packed, happy chappy. Jo Jo, as he is affectionately called, is in his second year with Mini Maestros. He loves attending classes and especially enjoys dancing, jumping to the music and doing tick-tocks each week with his best buddy, Max. Jo Jo is learning to sing lots of songs. Here is a little video of what he gets up to at home.

Common First Aid Mistakes

Common First Aid Mistakes!
A 5 Part Series - 4 of 5

Prevent Poisoning

By Nataly Tormey - WWC Education www.wwced.com

COMMON MISTAKE = ‘‘Inducing vomiting to prevent poisoning"

This is a commonly held conception but it can actually be quite dangerous. Causing your child to vomit, or even attempting to do so, runs the risk of blocking or burning your child’s airway. The safest option is to find out what they have ingested and how much, before calling your local emergency number for specific advice.
