The buzz…

Inter-Generational Music Making = Strengthening Friendships Through Songs and Dance by Jo Irwin, Macedon Ranges Franchisee.

Recently the ABC aired a unique social experiment that brings together elderly people in a retirement community with a group of 4-year-olds. Old People’s Home For 4 Year Olds is a five-episode series available to watch now on ABC iview.

Mini Maestros Macedon Ranges is proud to be associated with Our Village Family Childcare and Lions aged care Intergenerational Playgroup.

We have been strengthening friendships through songs and dance on a Friday morning for over 18 months now and value the special opportunity that our weekly music sessions bring to families in our region. The children and their grand-friends at the Lion's aged care have built relationships that have allowed both generations to foster their community connections.

The benefits of a playgroup for different generations is that the younger and the older generation get to develop the same cognitive processes. They can share different perspectives in life and unique experiences. It's quite a stimulating type of play that allows everyone to exercise their brain using different types of thinking and playful engagement.

If you or someone you know would like further information on how to introduce inter-generational music classes at your aged care community or kinder/playgroup, please contact us.
